"Il Corniolo" Farmhouse

The Agriturismo Il Corniolo is located 400 meters above sea level in Garfagnana, a small and beautiful region in the province of Lucca, along the valley of the Serchio river and the extreme northern edge of Tuscany.

The farm extends over 14 hilly hectares, in the municipality of Castiglione Garfagnana, in the center of a truly unique natural setting, a holiday land par excellence, among parks and nature reserves such as Lamarossa, Orecchiella and the Apuan Alps.

For years, since the mid-1900s, the farming of dairy cattle and meat has been a source of livelihood for the various families of farmers who succeeded each other in the company and only from the beginning of the new century the new property has transformed the conventional agricultural activity into organic, integrating it with the agritourism and educational offer.

The certified organic farm since 2005, is very attentive to the basic biodiversity of fruit production of the three small orchards of ancient races of apples, plums, figs, such as Mulberry, Azzeruolo, Italian medlar, wild fruits such as Dog rose, blackthorn and Dogwood ; the production of fresh fruit is accompanied also by walnuts and hazelnuts.

Furthermore, as Guardian Farmers we are an active part of the program of the Tuscany Region to safeguard biodiversity, with the replanting of ancient fruits such as the Perrussetto apple and particular crops such as the "Formenton del Palazzaccio" an ancient native corn, the Turco Grigio beans. and Mascherino, the Strawberry tomato, the Moon squash that we grow to reproduce the seeds to be entrusted to the ancient seed bank, as well as to produce and taste ancient forgotten flavors.

Since May 2017, the dehydration activity has been added to agricultural production, creating a new line of dehydrated products, such as apples, tomatoes, courgette flowers, but also wild chamomile, mint, nettle and various aromatic herbs.

It is almost superfluous to remember that we are in an ideal position, with routes from the easiest and most relaxing to the most demanding ones to satisfy the various needs, therefore an excellent base for excursions or trekking if you prefer, on foot or on horseback. It will also be possible to organize a real equestrian tourism , assisted by qualified personnel.

At Corniolo, in addition to organic farming and biodiversity, we are interested and sensitive to all issues of sustainable development , such as waste reduction, use of renewable energy and use of natural products.
